About this event

Family & Education • Children & Youth

New this year: Hill Family Biking is partnering with the DC Department of Energy & Environment for the 6th annual Kingman Island Friends & Family Day. We'll begin the day at Stanton Park at 10:30am for a classic 4-mile Hill Family Biking group ride to Kingman Island highlighted by the new 17th St SE protected bike lanes.

As we arrive at Kingman island there will be live music, food and Maracas Ice Pops will be available for purchase and you're encouraged to bring your own picnic if you'd like. Activities like nature crafting, fishing, boating, yoga and more will be available on the island until 3pm.

We’ll have volunteers marshaling to ensure we stay together as a group. MPD bike team will also be participating in the ride to connect officers with the community.

If your family’s bikes need some TLC, please come 15 minutes early to get some assistance–we will have bike maintenance tools available, as well as some experienced amateur bike mechanics on hand to assist.

Thanks to our ride sponsor: The Joel Nelson Group

8 years old is a good cut off, but depends on the child's ability and comfort level. Kids 7 and under should ride on an adult's bike as a passenger.

Do I need a helmet?

We ask that all participants in our rides wear a helmet.

Can I ride a scooter?

We ask that everyone participating ride a bicycle or adult tricycle. No training wheels.

How long are the rides?

It depends on the event. But expect the ride + event to be 1.5 to 2 hours with frequent stops.
